Data Center Colocation

Enterprise infrastructure without the enterprise build-out

Running your own server room is expensive. Power. Cooling. Backup generators. Physical security. Fire suppression. Network redundancy. The list grows every year, and so does the cost of doing it well.

Data center colocation lets you skip the build-out entirely. Place your servers in a purpose-built, fully redundant facility with 24/7 security and enterprise-grade infrastructure. DDSystems partners with TierPoint, one of the largest colocation networks in the country, to give Maryland, DC, and Delaware businesses access to Tier III data centers without the contract complexity. We design the deployment, handle the move, and provide ongoing local support.

Why colocate

The server closet vs. the colocation cabinet

Most growing businesses hit a point where the in-office server room becomes a liability. Colocation solves the problem without forcing a move to public cloud.

In-Office Server Room

Owning the infrastructure problem

Servers in a closet, an aging UPS, a window AC unit, a hopeful prayer that the building's power stays on.

  • Single power feed, no backup generator
  • Cooling tied to building HVAC (or worse)
  • Physical security limited to a locked door
  • One ISP, one circuit, one failure point
  • Capex spending on UPS replacements, AC repair, fire suppression
  • Tied to your physical office for hardware access
Colocation with DDSystems

Enterprise-grade environment, opex-friendly

Tier III data center infrastructure built for the workloads you can't afford to lose, with DDSystems handling the hands-on work.

  • N+1 redundant power with diesel generator backup
  • Precision cooling engineered for server loads
  • Biometric access, 24/7 onsite security, surveillance
  • Multiple carrier circuits with BGP-routed redundancy
  • Predictable monthly opex instead of unpredictable capex
  • Office relocation, fire, or flood does not take systems down

What you get with DDSystems colocation

Every colocation engagement includes the foundational infrastructure your servers need to operate reliably, securely, and with room to grow.

Redundant power

Dual power feeds (A+B), N+1 UPS systems, and diesel generator backup. Your servers don't notice the utility outage; neither do your users.

Precision cooling

Engineered HVAC designed for server thermal loads, with hot/cold aisle containment and continuous environmental monitoring. No more office AC dictating server health.

Carrier-neutral connectivity

Access to multiple internet providers and direct cross-connects to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud). BGP-routed redundancy means no single circuit failure can isolate your infrastructure.

Physical security

Biometric and multi-factor access controls, mantrap entries, 24/7 onsite security personnel, and full video surveillance with audited access logs.

Fire suppression

Pre-action dry-pipe or clean-agent suppression systems designed to extinguish fires without water damage to your equipment. VESDA early-warning smoke detection across all zones.

Remote hands

When you need someone in the facility, you have someone in the facility. Power-cycle a server, swap a drive, plug in a console cable. Remote hands available 24/7 so you don't have to drive there.

Right-sized colocation

From a single server to a private cage

Start with the footprint your business actually needs today. Scale up as you grow — no need to commit to a full cabinet on day one.

Single U / Shared

1U to a few U

Perfect for one or two servers, edge appliances, or backup targets. Lowest-cost entry into colocation.

Quarter / Half Cabinet

10U – 20U

Right-sized for small server stacks. Lockable, segregated cabinet space with dedicated power circuits.

Full Cabinet

42U / 47U

Dedicated cabinet for full server stack, SAN, switching, and growth. Most businesses start here.

Private Cage

Multi-cabinet

Physically separated cage for organizations with strict security, compliance, or scale requirements.

Compliance & security

Audit-ready facilities for regulated workloads

Our partner facilities meet the standards your auditors, insurers, and customers expect to see. The same infrastructure that protects your hardware also protects your compliance posture.

SOC 2 Type II

Annually audited controls covering security, availability, and confidentiality.

HIPAA-ready

Facilities designed to host HIPAA-regulated workloads with appropriate physical safeguards.

PCI DSS

PCI-compliant environments available for organizations processing payment card data.

Tier III architecture

Concurrently maintainable infrastructure with N+1 redundancy on every critical system.

The DDSystems difference

A local team that does the work, not just signs the contract

Plenty of resellers will sell you a TierPoint cabinet and disappear. We do the work. From the initial design conversation through the move, the cutover, and every operational change after.

  • Migration planning & execution. We design the migration, schedule the cutover, and physically move equipment.
  • Ongoing management. Your colocated infrastructure stays part of your Managed IT scope, monitored and patched by the same team.
  • Local presence. Maryland-based engineers who can drive to the facility when remote hands aren't enough.
  • Bundled accountability. One contract, one phone number, one team responsible for the whole stack.
Frequently asked questions

Common questions about colocation

What's the difference between colocation and cloud hosting?
Colocation means your physical hardware lives in someone else's data center. You own the servers; the facility provides power, cooling, security, and connectivity. Cloud hosting means you rent virtual capacity on someone else's hardware. Colocation is the right fit when you have existing infrastructure investments, specific hardware requirements, or workloads that aren't a clean fit for public cloud. We help clients decide between the two — and often the answer is a hybrid of both.
Why partner with TierPoint?
TierPoint operates one of the largest colocation networks in North America with facilities throughout the mid-Atlantic. Partnering with them means our clients get enterprise-grade infrastructure at scale, with the local proximity that matters for hands-on operations. We bring the design, deployment, and managed services; TierPoint brings the facility.
What does "remote hands" mean?
Remote hands is when data center staff perform physical work on your behalf — power-cycling a server, swapping a drive, plugging in a console cable, racking new equipment. It's available 24/7 so you don't have to drive to the facility for routine tasks. For more complex work, our DDSystems engineers can be onsite when needed.
How is colocation priced?
Colocation is typically priced based on three factors: physical space (U, cabinet, or cage), power draw (kilowatts), and bandwidth. We size the engagement to your actual needs and work with you to forecast growth — so you don't pay for capacity you don't use yet.
Do you help with the physical migration?
Yes. Migration planning, downtime coordination, physical transport, racking, and cutover are all part of how we deploy colocation. We treat the move like any other major IT project: planned, scheduled, communicated, and executed with rollback options at every step.
Can colocation work with disaster recovery?
Yes, and it often does. A common pattern is keeping production in one facility (or your office) and using colocation for off-site DR replication, or running production in colo with backups replicated to the cloud. We design DR architectures around our disaster recovery services regardless of where the production environment lives.
